Fun thing to try...

head on over to hockey-reference.com and check out the drafts listings which allows you to sort by category i.e. goals, games played, etc.

e.g. :1998

if you sort by total points, it puts gagne at #6. Of course this isn't really fair, because d-men generally won't have high point totals...but it does give you a sense about the offensive abilities.

1999

check out where the flyers'1st round pick ends up. there are stats for goalies... oullet #22 overall. played 12 games in the nhl. This pick is equal to the sittler pick.

zetterberg was #210 overall in that draft.

flyers picked well the next year with justin williams (28 overall) who despite all the injuries, is #4 in points. Just behind him is Hartnell (6 overall).

In 2001
The flyers picked badly in the first round with woywitka (#27) but found a gem in the later rounds with Patrick Sharp (#95).

As a final thought, there's lots of talk about signing Bouwmeester in the off season. Guess which former Flyer defenseman (also a first rounder) has a significantly better +/- than Bouwmeester?

  1. I guessed Pitkanen because I have been seeing him lately.

Lupul also has racked up a ringing -45.
