Gagne finally chipped in a goal, but the big news is Richard's hit on Booth. Afterwards, Richards stated that he wasn't trying to hurt/injure Booth but merely separate him from the puck.
Why not state the truth? You are trying to intimidate. You are trying to wear down your opponents. Knocking them out or silly is well within the lines of what's acceptable and what isn't. What isn't is what is considered a severe injury: paralysis, broken bones. However it is time to include concussions into that grade.
That was ugly. Hadn't seen it until your posting but was surprised after hearing the reports that he wasn't given a suspension. Whatever the demerits on the play, I would have thought Bettman's hard on against the Flyers would have automated some league action.
ReplyDeleteHere's the thing. We don't need Richards making these sorts of hits. They will make him only more of a target, tho he might argue that he's being targeted anyway, and if he doesn't respond, it's just a matter of time until he's laid out. Second, I'd like those hits reserved for our real rivals like the caps, pens and devils. No reason to rile up a team like FLA which is now down and out, but who we have to play a lot more this season, when they could understandably be more interested in payback than winning the game.
How was Gagne's goal? Anything to get excited about?
